GASTONIA, NC (Sept. 20) – Johnny Pursley captured his second Roush Yates Late Model win of the year Friday night as Carolina Speedway closed out the point season for 2013.
Jay Sessoms came home second with veteran Ray Tucker third, Daniel Tucker and Jonathan Edwards fifth. Sessoms’ second place finish clinched the track championship for the Stanley, NC native.
Ryan Ayers continued his hot streak as he sped the fourth straight win in the Southern Modified Shootout Open Wheel special. Matt Stover came home second with Matt Emmerling third, Manuel Johnson fourth and Shaun Martin Jr fifth. Emmerling’s third place finish clinched him the track title.
Ronald Pope outran a strong Domino’s Pizza Street Stock field to put an exclamation point on his 2013 track championship. Travis Mosley came home second with Brent Hodges third, Bryan Mullis fourth and Mike Broom fifth.
Jamie Major continued his domination of the Tilley Harley Davidson Renegade division with a flag to flag win. His win clinched the track championship. Paul Irby, Tyler Hyatt, Chris Stowe and Ronald Pope rounded out the top five in the 18 car field.
Blake Pryor won the Q2UBBQ Pit Four Cylinder main event but it was Shannon Barnhill taking the track championship with his third place finish. Patrick Lyon, Barnhill, Jerry Oliver and David Hendrick completed the top five.
Shorty Lacey inherited the Hornets victory after apparent winner Casey Shane refused to sell his car in a post-race protest. Scott Cloninger, David Laney, Issac Sosebee and Brian Baker rounded out the top five. David Motes seventh place finish netted him the track title.
Carolina Speedway will be off this Friday night September 27th but will roar back to life Friday Night October 4th with the USCS winged outlaw sprint cars. For more information please visit www.carolinaspeedway.net
