LOUDON, N.H. — Report by Race Chaser Online New England Correspondent Kyle Souza — Darren McCollester/Getty Images North America photo — Timmy Solomito may not yet have a win on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT), but he’s looking to change that this weekend — and he’s off to a good start.
Solomito was fastest in the opening practice of the weekend for the Tour on Friday morning at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 75 clocked a fast lap of 29.223 seconds (130.336 mph).
Ron Silk was second quickest on the speed charts, a shade off of Solomito’s lap at 29.306 seconds (129.967 mph). Former New Hampshire winner Todd Szegedy was third-quick on the time sheets. Ted Christopher and Patrick Emerling rounded out the top five.
Point leader Doug Coby’s team was forced to change the carburetor after Coby reported the engine was lacking on the throttle. Coby comes into the event six points up on Justin Bonsignore in the series standings, fighting for his second career championship.
The tour will have a second and final practice session today at 11 a.m. ET, followed by time trails at 5 ET tonight. The race goes green at 3:30 p.m ET tomorrow.
